Okay ladies and gentlemen, pencil this in your diaries. Must go to COW! I have officially hit vintage jackpot. You know when your flicking through a magazine, and you find profiles of these ultra cool fashion designers and when asked in their mini interview what are their store secrets, and they go like, I go this place that know one knows about to buy this special kind of soap,or this boutique stocks the best jeans blah blah WELL I HAVE FOUND THAT STORE FOR ME. Okay am super excited I don't think I'm making much sense at the moment. But basically on my last day in Nottingham- yes am still obsessed! - I went around to do some vintage shopping, and I walked into Cow- this new vintage store. Its so new they don't even have a website. But they do have a facebook group. (Sigh..where would we be without facebook)
This store is gorgeous and fun; from the funky blue paint on the outside, to its stained vintage wooden floors and soft flowery printed wallpaper, its a cool - literally breezy- with plenty of space to rummage around, and plenty PLENTY of fantastic pieces. I am not ashamed to say I hauled in 20 pieces at a time for 3 changing room visits. But it was the prices that really shook me to my core. Summery dresses that would sell in London for no less than 40 pounds were being sold at 14 pounds a dress. 14 POUNDS !!!! Ka-chinnnnnng! London prices have taught me to appreciate a bargain when I see one. I was literally in tears at the price tags - 7 pounds for a mint layered top with a big bow on the front! 9 pounds for a scarlet tea dress with a yellow polka dotted belt attached to its waist. There were Roberto Cavalie look alike steals with handmade beading and sexy cuts, and Oscar De La Renta frocks with puffs in the sleeves and skirt.
At the end of the my 3 hour hoy ride I settled for a 7 pound Valentino frilly black top, a 16 pound symmetrical white and greyish striped dress , a 16 pound gold and brown quilted handbag with one strap, and 14 a pink very-Audrey-Hepburn styled pink dress which I plan on wearing for my private view this Friday. Cow is also opening stores in Birmigham and Sheffield for all you lucky locals- snatch up as much as much goodies as you can. You don't know when they'll pull a Topshop move on us and start over pricing everything.
This white and gold dress is for 100 pounds ( a great steal)
and the black dress in the bottom right was a mere 30 pounds

I'm a londoner hoping to head up to Cow next week during my reading week to do some shopping.
any tips on directions and transport means in getting there?
Cow is good (beginning to up the prices) but there used to be a very small but very cheap shop called beatnik boutique, which often had really nice stuff but which has unfortunately closed down now. Other good vintage shops are Wild clothing/Wilder - although the one in hockley (failry near cow) is better for vintage and make sure you go downstairs, Apart from that, oxfam originals ( also in hockley) often has some good stuff
Near COW there is another vintage shop called the vintage warehouse, its next to Quazer. :)
It is literally a warehouse, but if you like cheap vintaage clothes you can often find reaally nice stuff - i like it better than COW. :) X
Vintage Warehouse is down the road past COW, past all the shops such as Ice Nine and Void, you have to go right to the end of that road and then turn left at the charity shop that is NEVER open!, Vintage Waregouse has a big yellow board outside.. and sometimes there is a fit person working there, LOL! x
great review there..
:)
